The task wasn’t easy. With over 300 entries on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, our panel of five judges had their work cut out for them. We asked each of them to select their top three favourites which we weighted. And, after all was said and done “Luna” was the clear winner.
As many of you may remember, Luna was a well-known orca whale that inhabited the waters of the Nootka Sound from 2001 to 2006. Separated from his mother at a young age, Luna spent five years delighting tourists and residents alike off the coast of Vancouver Island. His story is told in the 2011 documentary The Whale.
The challenge for us was that 10 people selected Luna as their name for our Lumière Whale! Subsequently, we decided to add a grand prize and draw two winners out of the 10 winning entrants.
Here’s what our two winners will win:
- GRAND PRIZE: Return airfare for two to Victoria from Vancouver courtesy HeliJet ($1100 value).
- RUNNER-UP: “Whale-watching” dinner for two at the Beach Bay Cafe and Patio ($150 value).
A huge thanks to all the people who took the time to enter our contest! Luna the Lumière Whale is going to light up Morton Park until the end of January 2016, so make your way down there and say hello!
