Spotlight Series: Ryleah Shae on Public Art in the West End

End of The Eras Tour: West End Friendship & Fun

Vancouver knows how to celebrate and the party’s in the West End! Taylor Swift’s global phenomenon has arrived — are you ready to be a Lover? Shake it Off at the beach, be your best Anti-Hero, join friends to fill the Blank Space for a West End Fortnight of fun with friends! Give an icon her due and enjoy the hum of the West End’s action.

Picture-Perfect Swifties Making their Mark

Vancouver event designer and artist, Ryleah Resler, envisioned a unique West End celebration. We spoke with Resler about her idea for bringing the community together, her passion for creative expression, and how she’s amped up the whimsy at the iconic West End Amazing Laughter sculptures.

“What could be more fun?” Resler gushed when we spoke to her. “I didn’t snag tickets for the concerts, but there was no way I was going to be on the sidelines. I mean, fans are coming from all over Canada and the US, and the set-up is perfect for a community celebration for everyone. With my experience in brand activation, I could see exactly how to create a splash. Combining Vancouver’s status as the last stop on The Eras Tour, plus our beloved Morton Park public art — the result is Swiftie fun with maximum engagement!”

A Love Story, One Friendship Bracelet at a Time

Vancouver residents and concert-goers from out-of-town can visit the 8-foot tall Amazing Laughter statues, now decked out with oversized friendship bracelets. The iconic English Bay bronze sculptures sport messages like Lover, Gorgeous, and Karma. Brimming with selfies, Swifties, and colour — English Bay’s natural beauty is the perfect spot to add a local connection to your Eras Tour memories.

As part of The Eras Tour, concert-goers around the world exchange beaded friendship bracelets at performances. With Resler’s help, the West End BIA transformed the Amazing Laughter public statues into a one-of-a-kind selfie backdrop, with an Eras Tour theme. During the tour’s finale concerts in Vancouver, Resler’s colourful giant bracelets are a free, interactive public art experience at Davie and Denman.

In addition, West End Community Centre events are also being held to celebrate The Eras Tour. Swifties can create their own art and photos, while enjoying the fun of trading bracelets.

Swifties & Selfies by the Beach

The West End BIA is serious about having fun. Art installations, pop-up displays, and neighbourhood gathering events are a community priority. Public art and placemaking gives residents, visitors, and local businesses a place to celebrate together, creating special memories.

Whether you’re in town for an Eras Tour concert or ready to spend a cozy afternoon watching the waves from a neighbourhood café, restaurant, or nightspot, drop by Morton Park at Davie and Denman. Take in the outsized fun at the Amazing Laughter art installation. Post a selfie, swap a bracelet, share the memories. Vancouver’s West End knows the era of Swiftie joy will never end.
