AMOKA’s manager, Belem Castro, knew the cozy storefront was the perfect location in the West End. “Our customers are amazing,” Castro said, “and our warmth and friendliness starts with our staff. We have a close-knit team, and we work hard to create a space that is more than just another coffeeshop. We are a community, we’re friends, we care for each other — at AMOKA, we brew the best coffee and bake the best bites because that’s what we want for our own families and for ourselves! This is home and we’re so happy to be here.”
Open 7 days a week from morning through to mid-afternoon, AMOKA serves everything you need for breakfast, lunch, or that pick-me-up break somewhere in your day. Their in-house bakery pops out classic breads and fresh pastry favourites.
“Our croissants are really popular,” Castro said. “We make an in-house peanut and chili oil – called salsa macha – that gives our popular ham and mozza croissant a bit of a kick. We use premium New Zealand butter in all of our baking, and our customers can tell the quality difference. We’re proud to produce the best. Everyone should experience our Concha Mexican sweet bread. It’s a buttery brioche bun with a delicious, crunchy top in chocolate or vanilla. We have so many choices on our menu. Every one of our regular customers has a scratch-made pastry or bread they think is our best.”

On the coffee side of things, AMOKA’s Choco Chai Signature won a top award for the best hot chocolate in Vancouver. Drip coffee, cold brew, Americano, Espresso, Cappuccino, Macchiato — AMOKA has all of your favourites, plus chai, matcha, and tea.
“I think the perfect coffee is a Flat White. It’s still our most popular drink. We serve an 8 oz with classic espresso and steamed milk. A lot of folks don’t realize that a Flat White is the same as a Traditional Cappuccino — when something is this good, it can’t help but be a favourite!” Castro said.
