Dr. Martha Reid was a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine looking to plant roots. Growing up in a family chockfull of medical doctors, Dr. Reid took a complementary path into the world of holistic medicine. In 2011, she assumed ownership of Doctors’ Choice Integrative Medicine, located in a charming, old-time Vancouver house on Thurlow.
“This house used to be a surgery consultation office,” Dr. Reid told us. “The surgeon lived on-site and operated on his patients next door at St. Paul’s Hospital. Today, our office offers a full range of integrated care options including naturopathic treatments, massage therapy, acupuncture, holistic nutrition, clinical counselling, and intravenous vitamin therapies. Wherever possible, we work alongside our patients’ other medical practitioners, as our goal is to serve our patients through integration. Complementary and conventional medicine, when combined effectively, offer unique tools for each patient’s optimal wellness.”

We asked Dr. Reid about access requirements for patient services. “We welcome new patients year-round and offer free Discovery Calls, so people can learn about what we do. Often our patients have extended medical benefit coverage for portions of the services we provide.”
Dr. Reid went on to explain Doctors’ Choice’s approach, “Our practice is rooted in generations, even centuries, of medical knowledge. When our patients arrive for their appointment, we delight in welcoming them with a cup of tea. Our goal is to remove unnecessary chaos from our patients’ health experience. We prefer to wait for our patients, rather than having them wait for us! Our goal is to have each patient arrive at our ‘Medicine House’ on Thurlow Street with a deep sense that they are at home. It starts with a trusting, compassionate relationship that allows us to work with each patient in building lasting and effective health improvements. Together, we choose the tools needed to resolve medical ailments, building sustainable solutions for future decades of healthy living.”
