We asked Gilla how she got started. “I trained formally before coming to Canada, and then I continued with more education in hair, esthetics, and spa services here. I was working down the street and loved the area. Gilla’s Hair Salon and Spa was a long-time dream — I love helping clients achieve their best look, in a warm and relaxed environment. We have four chairs and full-service spa choices available seven days a week.”
Regular customers on Denman wave a daily greeting through the storefront glass. Gilla laughs, “I love it. We’re a big family here. The West End has such a great sense of community. We welcome each client as if the salon space is our home and theirs, too. There’s joy, beauty, and a love for what we do — we feel our success in our loyal customers! No matter where I live in the Lower Mainland, my home is in the West End, because this is where my team and I care for others.”

After a multi-decade career as a stylist, Gilla provides master-level oversight to the cuts, colouring, nail sculpting, threading, waxing, and massage services her clients count on. “Our regulars look forward to coming in. We catch up, sure, but we also get down to the business of feeling good. It’s about being relaxed. I’m relaxed, my team is ready, we keep things predictable and reliable. We have a sense of our trusted position in our customers’ lives. They could go lots of places, but they come to us. That’s something I’ve always loved about Canada — people appreciate kindness and warm service. That’s what I’ve worked hard to establish here at the salon — a place that’s friendly, thoughtful, caring, and welcoming. This is what I love about the West End, especially — together, we bring multicultural diversity and it produces warmth and joy,” Gilla said.
