Authentic Latin American Tastes
What happens when you combine dynamic women and Latin America’s best flavours? Mi Tierra Latina is a Vancouver grocery store unlike any other. Whether you hail from other parts of the world or crave the tastes of your latest trip to southern latitudes, here’s a store that has exactly what you’ve been looking for.
Four Women on a Mission
Mi Tierra Latina is only a few years old, but already boasts nine locations across Vancouver, including two in the West End. It was an idea that presented itself before its owners could create a plan. We wanted to hear how four women partnered to create a grocery chain with a difference. Co-owner, Alexandra Osan, told us that demand for authentic ingredients was pressing. “Our coffeeshop in the West End had so many requests for the imported items our menu was built around. We began importing bigger quantities and had inventory logistics that demanded we open additional locations.
“Over time, we expanded our thinking and offered participation opportunities to the Latin American investment community. It’s been a whirlwind of a ride, but we’re proud of the success we’ve built. Mi Tierra is the grocery chain that a community created. We sell across Canada and offer convenient shipping services. Many of our customers have family members living in here and they order through us, sending their loved ones gift cards or custom orders — straight from our stores to Canadian addresses. We are a win-win for caring friends and family, as we provide the comfort foods from home, including the brand names that our Latin American customers know well. We take care of all of the logistics for a special delivery from home, right here in Canada,” Osan explained.
A Community Grocery Chain
“We sell everything from pantry staples and nostalgic candy to ready-to-go meals and fresh, imported produce,” Osan said. “Mexican Jarritos and Brazil’s Guarana energy drink — Supercoco Turron from Colombia, Abuelita Hot Chocolate — we have a huge selection of favourites. Spicy tamarind Pulparindo and crispy Obleas wafers — who can resist treats from home like these?”
The stores’ wide inventory includes complete taco and empanada meals, providing authentic preparation methods and flavour combinations with ready-to-heat convenience. The best tortillas and salsas complement world-famous coffee brands and packaged spices. Corn, beans, chiles, dairy — everything needed to serve the best of Brazil, Argentia, Peru, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala. The fact cassava flour is the base in many items means there are gluten-free and vegan-friendly options throughout the store.
