Authentic Mexican Food in Vancouver’s West End
A new hotspot on Denman Street in Vancouver welcomes neighbourhood regulars and those looking for the real thing. You might be craving a birria taco with a mango-chili margarita, or a cumin and coriander chicken plate. Los Chavos Mexican Restaurant and Cantina knows how to bring Mexico’s best spices and freshest ingredients to your taste buds.
We all know when we’ve found that cozy and authentic spot with the real taste we’ve been searching for. Los Chavos has built a solid reputation for the finest, relaxed food and ambiance in its West End location. It’s a homecoming experience, bringing two Mexican brothers together after refining their culinary skills for more than twenty years.
The Real Thing for Tacos & Cocktails
We talked to older brother, Juan Ledesma Santos, during a lull in the dinner-hour recently. He explained how two boys from the barrio ended up building their dream restaurant near the beach in Vancouver.
“Josue and I have cooked together since high school. We went off in our own directions, learning the business side of the industry and working under mentors at great restaurants like Nook,” Juan explained from the brothers’ prime spot in the old Buckstop BBQ space on Denman. “Growing up in Mexico, authentic taste is part of who we are, so we built our menu around ingredients that give that ‘wow factor’ that tells the story of our experience.”
Lime, Cilantro, Corn Tortillas & Mezcal Negroni
Blocks from English Bay and Stanley Park, dinner and drinks followed by a romantic seaside walk draws folks from across the city. Locals stop in for cerveza and beef tacos after work. Uber Eats flows hot out the door with authentic seafood ceviche, chips and guac, tostados and dinner plates.
“Our goal is great food in a happy, friendly Mexican atmosphere. We’re open late, so friends and families can enjoy an evening and special memory together. Josue and I learned how to take care of each other — and it’s this sense of warmth that we give to our customers. When you share time over a mezcal negroni after work with friends, you’ll drift towards memories of everything wonderful about Mexico,” Juan told us.
