Placemaking Program Allows for the Refreshing of a Much-Loved West End Mural
The City of Vancouver, through the Partner-Led Placemaking Program have agreed to financially support the West End BIA in the restoration/refreshing of “The Band”, a mural located at 1195 Davie Street, completed in 2007 by British Canadian Artist Elizabeth Hollick.
WEBIA have sought the expertise of local artist Nano Murata to undertake the refresh of this much loved West End mural. You can find Nano and her team of helpers painting from Friday August 20th.
Nano Murata is a Vancouver based painter born 1994, Chigasaki, Japan. From an early age painting became a way to mediate and moderate the relations between her reality and subconscious. Painting from life, Nano makes observations of everyday objects and places that cross her path, re-interpreting the light through colour with her brush stroke. Forgotten corners, iridescent glasses, fragments of clutter, and cherished houseplants are all potential subjects for her work. Her non-hierarchical still life collections depict her belief that every little thing carries its own beauty.
